Centuries after Jason mythed the boat, another team has a go
It's fascinating how the story of Jason and the Argonauts captures the imagination. I love those B (and Z) grade movie-tellings of those particular stories, except for one thing. Medea.
Where does she really fit into the story, and why does every telling make her out to be the villain?
Perhaps it's because over the years since I started my delight in the stories I've also become more aware of the role women filled, and the gaps in history that don't describe the things women do.
I often wonder exactly how old she was, given that menache was often the point at which girls were considered capable of women's responsibilities only a century ago. Western cultures were still closer to Homeric times in the ways that things were done than we are now. Funny thing is, the way women are treated doesn't always seem to have changed all that much in all that time either.
