How to scandalise lazy minds

What we're dealing with here is the way an ignorant and mentally lazy public - egged on by a commercialised media more interested in entertaining than informing - sidesteps the intellectually demanding but important issues and focuses on the tiny things it does understand.
So odd. This was the first statement in a batch over the last two months that is increasingly
making it plain that what most people think of as "news" is actually "olds" (to quote Terry Pratchett's The Truth).

It's weird to find RealLife(TM) starting to discuss in an easily accessible forum this topic which I had only come across in fictional settings otherwise. But it does start to raise questions as to whom we should rely on for what truely is "news" and whom to rely on for accuracy in reporting that "news".
