Legislation online - Australian style. Good? Bad? Really silly?

There was an incident on late night television last year that has got the Communications Minister of Australia clutching at her pearls in outrage. However, the results of her outrage would seem to be leading to a legislative response that betrays a real lack of understanding of the culture, and structure, of the internet.
Crikey has links (and other commentary) to the draft legislation that may already have been updated. Peter Black and Kim Wetherall, lecturers in law at Australian universities that have illuminated aspects of recent copyright legislation for me, have also made comment.
I find their understanding of what is being proposed in this draft legislation quite concerning. And the implications for communication in my country very worrying.

What to do about it, I don't know ... but I think I shall be making enquiries of my local federal member to find out what is going on!
