Does crime run in your family?
The Convict Transportation Registers: 1788 – 1868 now available online, exclusively at Ancestry.com.au
Between 1788 and 1868, approximately 165,000 convicts, mainly British, but also North American, West Indian and African, were transported to Australia to serve out their sentences. Whilst most have long been forgotten, their legacy to us is a rich collection of documents, stories and images that make this one of the most important and definitive collections for Australia.
It is estimated that about 1 in 5 Australians can trace their ancestry back to a convict. Could you be one of these Australians?
