Bursting with joy …
Over on Modem Noise, my dear friend has obtained a Palm Pilot. Now this may not figure that prominently in your life, dear reader, but there is a certain science-fiction-y titillation to the knowledge that one is holding in one’s hot little hand a gadget that one saw some thirty years ago on a kitchy TV show.
I refer to Star Trek, of course, where certain items of futuristic gadgetry were first imaged for those of us who think we might like to live out on the ‘final frontier’ *big grin*
A few years ago my dearly beloved celebrated his fortieth birthday, and some kind soul gave him one of these gadgets – a Palm Pilot III. And I won’t deny that I was properly consumed with envy. But I was a very good girl – I let him keep it until …
Six months later!!
Told you I was a ‘good girl’ (though he maintains it was a matter of less than a week *hah!*)
When I asked if he was going to learn to use it there was some sort of agreeable noise that I could play with it … and for nearly two years I had the delightful little darling all to myself *evil laughter* Then one terrible day just as I had hot-synced between my Palm Pilot and my desktop the worst thing in the world happened. It slipped through my slippery fingers and smashed to the floor. I was devastated. Himself wasn’t too impressed either!
Fortunately tax-return time arrived soon afterwards and I purchased a new model Palm Pilot. I’ve even bought extra software for it and frequently write my blog on it … but the remains of the old smashed Palm Pilot guiltily still lie on my desk, reproaching me with the concept that I should really get my dearly beloved a replacement.
He’s not getting MINE though …!
