Public Library of Science: PLoS Posters

Oooh! A new source of information ... sad, I know, but as someone who has a wide range of interests in all sorts of things, there are times I am brought face to face with the cost of getting hold of that information. It's not something you think about when one is studying because it's all supplied for you, accessible and not costing the student up front.
What is it about 'out of sight' with regards to costs that encourages an insatiable desire for more of what everything?

So I like the idea of a less expensive way to access scientific information. Especially if it remains peer-reviewed to maintain the standards that have been set in the past. Less expensive implies that more people can access the information, but the main question is, how many access the information at the present, and realise the current cost of publication or licensing to the library in which they are reading it?

That is something that I have become more aware of in the last few weeks. When you have to calculate the costs of obtaining information to one's budget, one becomes aware of the how much information is worth. Not something that I appreciated to the extent I do now. So this new model of making scientific information available rather appeals to me in many ways.
