My first professional conference. Quite frankly I am finding it a little overwhelming. Not for any bad reasons, just that there is so much to get into my brain at a time.
The two talks that have made the most impression on me so far have been the keynote speaches by Josephine Bryant and Dawn Casey. The first because the requirements for having a vision for change and clear goals for what is to be changed is always a good place to start. The second for having the courage to insist that the vision can include ideas that may not be liked because of ideological reasons and finding ways to still incorporate those views as a source of reflection.
Building the connections between what a 'library' wants to do in serving its 'client base'* and what is required of it by the PTB would seem to be key. I think I may have to start reading material on management practice along with all the other stuff I consume!

*still no common term for the people who visit libraries - clients, users, readers (though that one is a bit in decline since there are so many other things in (public) libraries that do not require 'just reading' skills). I wonder if the term will ever be pinned down?!
