If only those permissive 1960s had never existed - Opinion - www.theage.com.au

This is scary ... why is it that the period most of our politicians grew up in (ie, they mostly seem to be heading into their fifties and sixties which makes them officially 'baby boomers') all of a sudden a time that is desirable? Is it because, just as women enter menopause and finally give up on the 'personal baby generator' thing, men are entering andropause?

If that is so, is it that in striking that lifepoint reminds these men that they are no longer the young and invincible fellows they were in the 60s? Is that why they want to take refuge in a time when they didn't know that there were people who had different ways of looking or experiences of life?

Is it that they want to take refuge in the idealised past?

How sad.
