What Australian and US voters now crave - Opinion - www.theage.com.au
I think there is something to what Frank Bennett is saying about the lack of understanding by those who consider themselves at the more liberal end of the political spectrum.

The scary thing is that no matter how hard or how much understanding 'liberals' gain of where the 'conservatives' are coming from (to use a typical Australian phrase) the very valid questions that are raised by the liberals about the conservative point of view are nearly always howled down.

There are some ways in which I fear very much for the younge people of this time, my daughter and other young women in particular, in the future that is being carved out for them by this current political mindset that seems so set on taking refuge in an idealised past attitude to the world when it was 'safer' during the childhood of the men who are now in control.

A New York Times reporter was apparently told that 'reality' is what the White House (and I would add to that the recurring incumbant of Kirribilli House too) decides.
Last time I looked, that was called 'living a fantasy life'...
