Ancient pines on the block:
"The chairman of Sotheby's, Justin Miller, has sold million-dollar paintings, ancient Chinese porcelain and shopping trips with Elle Macpherson. But he has never auctioned a tree."
How amazing, I just love the idea that a tree has been found lurking quietly out of the way, and now there may be avenues of them, admittedly toddling down the driveway of some wealthy individual (or one could hope for some generous donation to a community somewhere) of these long forgotten lifeforms.
That there are sufficient to sell in this way is a tribute to the sort of science that a some folks think is 'evil' just boggles my brain. We should be so fortunate to be able to have such tools that can ensure that plants like these are no longer going to be threatened because they only exist in one place.
Bit like us humans really - we are stuck on this mud ball of ours and at the rate we are going, we are not going to have a lifeform save us!
